@Gargron i saw a pretty sweet looking convertible chair that would let me sit in all the wildly inappropriate ways i sit in a chair. i'm like a gargoyle.

@baynoni: it's super frustrating sometimes because i've been on the net since the 90s and i had an extremely public presence for years and it's very unnerving. my children use aliases for any gaming/interaction with the public, wish i thought to do that as a kid.

I love this ambivalence among privacy professionals of wanting to connect with each other over the net but also wanting to flex their craft and go totally dark as a matter of walking the walk πŸ˜‚

Here at soc.kvet.ch, we would like to say that we banned Donald Trump’s @reallyrealDonaldTrump account months ago, and are glad others are doing so, too.

@chartier i listen to the weirdos and they're all super mad about everything. first the election was a sting, then it was stolen, now the vaccines are all bio weapons - they're a mess

My ScanSnap won't get a driver recompiled for 64bit so not buying one of those. Instead I got a Brother ADS-1700W and it's super fast, *and* it can scan direct to network shares, an sftp service running on your workstation or NAS or even in AWS. It's great, and I'd buy it again. I can only vouch for stand-alone use, I did use their iOS App and it's fine πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Privacy Friendly Club Rule 1: Practice what you preach.

Your landing page for a "privacy-first" product makes calls to Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Optimize, Adroll, Marketo and a few more.

there are an awful lot of people working remotely now that weren't a year ago, and a lot of those employees are on networks, and there are many IT and security teams that have not thought to treat the way they treat in their tooling, management, logging, alerting, and also β€”Β host packet filters and firewall policies that ignore ipv6 entirely, for example.

you can easily verify this yourself and report to your security teams!

Be intentional with . If you don't, it will find it's way into your environment and you won't like how it gets there if you don't invite it in.

@seb I'm more of a single malt guy but considering the state of this country right now maybe i should save the good stuff for another day πŸ˜‚

@maxeddy I haven't bothered to check out this nextcloud stuff. i use resiliosync for tons of things - lightroom catalogs, dotfiles for workstations (dotfiles.shared, dotfiles.queenmary, dotfiles.worklappie, etc.) and i generally trust apple and google with my calendar and contacts so i don't know what nextcloud is really great at! i also have a synology filer so that probably lowers my interest. should i check it out anyway?

@seb before i read any of this should i wear any protective gear

@clintlalonde i work in a team that only does collaborative threat modeling workshops with engineers and "integrity of data" is easy for people to forget, but i'm pleaded to say that "privacy" is very front and center at Comcast/NBCUniversal.

not grabbing data that we don't need, or things we don't want to be responsible for, and then also to de-identify what must be retained wherever we can β€” i've been in security for over 20y and i've never been more optimistic.

@chartier whooooa i'm surprised i don't catch some of that when I'm here in Iowa.
